Philadelphia City Council on Thursday unanimously adopted Resolution 251093 renaming the corner of Broad Street and Pike Street "Saudia Schuler Way" in recognition of Saudia Schuler’s community service.
The chamber heard multiple testimonials from neighbors, community leaders and elected officials who described Schuler’s food distributions, holiday giveaways, and long‑running volunteer work. "For over a decade Saudia has poured into children and families with a consistency and generosity that this city needs," said Charles "Charlie Mack" Austin, referencing programs that feed thousands annually.
Schuler, who addressed the chamber, said much of the work is volunteer driven and called on others to join. "I bring our city together because people come from North Philly, West Philly, South Philly," she told the council. Speakers included family members and community activists who described her work to help the unhoused, distribute food and organize holiday events.
The council placed the resolution on the final‑passage calendar and adopted it by roll call; the clerk recorded unanimous ayes. The resolution will be printed in the journal and the street naming will proceed under city naming procedures.
