The University of Guam Regent Nominating Council voted 7-0 on Jan. 8, 2026, to forward Christopher (Chris) Felix's application packet to the governor for consideration to fill an upcoming regent vacancy.
Madam Chair announced the tally after a roll-call-style vote, saying, "we have 7 yes for Christopher Felix and, 0 for, mister Lee Weber." Council members who voiced their choices during the vote all signaled support for Felix.
The vote followed the council's earlier decision, made after an executive-session review of completed applications, to approve submitting a single packet to the governor for consideration. Staff had reported that only two completed application packets were eligible for consideration at this time: those for Lee Weber and Chris Felix.
Council staff also provided an update on a separate gubernatorial selection process: the governor selected James Robert Kelly on Nov. 26, 2025; staff said Kelly accepted and submitted required documents on Dec. 17 and that the legislature must schedule a public confirmation hearing.
Next steps: council staff will route Christopher Felix's approved packet to the governor's office for processing. The governor and legislature will follow their own scheduling and confirmation procedures; no date for a legislative confirmation hearing for any submission was provided at the meeting.
Reporting note: names and procedural details are drawn from the council's Jan. 8, 2026 meeting minutes and the council's announcements during the session.
