Residents press Warren to fix aging pump station; town promises report

Warren — Two neighbors asked the council tonight to address a pump station near Patterson Avenue that has emitted persistent, increasingly foul odors and shows signs of structural decay.
Jeremy Bea of 60 Patterson Ave. told councilors the pump station has relied on multiple temporary generators while the town delays a longer-term fix and asked the town to earmark funds for repair. Neighbor Al Cabral, who said he has lived across from the facility since 1979, described 'horrendous' smells from anaerobic decomposition and cited a suspected malfunctioning gate valve that prevents tank cleaning.
Councilors and the manager acknowledged the complaints and said staff have been notified. The town manager promised a full report next month identifying causes and options for remediation. Councilors also thanked residents for volunteering time and local knowledge to help the town address the problem.
What to expect: The town manager said a staff report with engineering and funding options will be provided by next month; the finance and public-works departments will evaluate whether capital but also operating adjustments are required.
