Youth Council nears fundraising goal for D.C. trip; approves attendance at Tallahassee legislative days

The Cape Coral Youth Council received a $3,000 donation from Kiwanis and was told Jan. 9 that the group's travel fund stood at roughly $17,000, about $3,000 short of a $20,000 goal for the National League of Cities Congressional City Conference in Washington, D.C. Richard Leone of Kiwanis presented the donation and expressed continued fundraising support. "We have a $3,000 check to present to you," Leone said.
Advisor Hayden provided a budgetary preview, estimating airfare, hotel and event fees and saying those three items would total about $15,000, with remaining funds to cover food and transportation. Hayden said there was a pending Rotary grant request for $5,000 (with the council prepared to accept $3,000 if needed) and that Advanced Hurricane Technology pledged $200. He recommended locking in flights and hotels early and noted one direct carrier (American) serves the required route.
Separately, the council discussed and approved participation in the Florida League of Cities (FLC) Youth Council Legislative Action Days in Tallahassee (Jan. 26–28). Administrative contact Ms Griblin said registration was open and asked members planning to attend to return waivers promptly so staff could book hotels and plan transportation. Members noted school absence implications and the need for commitment before travel bookings would be made.
