Montezuma County commissioners certify 2026 mill levies, shift quarter-mill to social services

Montezuma County commissioners on Dec. 22 approved the annual certification of mill levies for 2026, a ministerial action that transmits local levies to the county assessor for state reporting. Robert, a county staff member who presented the item, said the county’s line-item rates are a general mill of 10.558, Road and Bridge 2.366 and public welfare (social services) 1.3. He noted the adopted 2026 budget shifted a quarter of a mill from Road and Bridge to social services.
Robert told commissioners that Dolores Cemetery District and Lebanon Cemetery District did not submit mill-levy information; under state practice those districts will retain their previous levy. “From, once you approve this, then it'll go to the assessor who will submit all of the information to the state,” Robert said.
An unidentified commissioner moved to approve the certification as presented and the motion carried on voice votes. The county will forward the certified levies to the assessor’s office for state submission. The action is procedural and does not change individual district rates beyond what the county budget already set.
