The Whitfield County Board of Commissioners opened its Jan. 12, 2026 meeting, approved the agenda and minutes, and adopted a proclamation honoring Bobby Earwood for his longtime service cleaning and beautifying downtown Dalton. Commissioners approved committee and board nominations, including appointments to the Dalton-Whitfield Joint Development Authority and the vice-chairmanship.
The board unanimously approved the proclamation designating Jan. 12, 2026, as Bobby Earwood Day in Whitfield County. A short presentation recognized Earwood’s volunteer work around the courthouse and Hamilton Street in Dalton and commissioners thanked him for his service.
Other routine business included confirmation of nominees for multiple county committees and a motion approving Barry Robbins to continue as vice chairman. The board also accepted committee rosters and made several appointments by voice vote, with motions and seconds recorded and each action carrying on a 4–0 vote.
The meeting then moved to substantive agenda items, including a finance report and a series of contract and purchase approvals. Following public comment and a brief exchange on certain rezoning items, the board voted to enter executive session on personnel matters and adjourned after the closed session.
