UCPS Board Honors Students, Staff and Retiring Captain Dee Allen

At the January 2026 meeting the Union County Board of Education presented several recognitions: Matthew Moore of Union County Early College received the John H. Crowder Service Award for academic achievement and community service; Amanda Hewitt (Waxhaw Elementary, exceptional children resource teacher) and Emily Richardson (data manager, South Providence School) were named UCPS Influencers for January; and Captain Dee Allen of the Union County Sheriff's Office was honored on retirement for 30 years of service and leadership in school safety.
Nominators Alexis Stadler and Annette Griffin described Hewitt's and Richardson's contributions to students and staff. Superintendent Andrew G. Houlihan read a proclamation recognizing Hewitt and Richardson and congratulated the board during National School Board Recognition Month. CTO Jay Parker was also congratulated after being named Southwest Region Technology Officer of the Year for the fourth consecutive year.
