The Little Compton Town Council approved the police department’s request to purchase a 2026 patrol cruiser for a quoted total of $63,682 (including graphics and upfitting) to be paid from a departmental 'detailed cruiser' account.
Police Chief Raines explained the account holds approximately $41,500 from detail and maintenance fees and expects an additional deposit of about $33,600 resulting from a state reimbursement statute tied to public safety training and hiring; together those amounts would place the account near $75,000. The chief said the town participates in a master price agreement (MPA) and that upfitting will be sourced via the authorized vendor.
Councilors asked about fleet size and trade‑in practices. Chief Raines said the department runs two main patrol vehicles, a small set of administrative vehicles, and a set of spares; there have been recent deer strikes and spare use has increased. A motion to approve the purchase was made, seconded and carried by voice vote.
Key figures: dedicated cruiser account ~$41,500; expected reimbursement deposit ~$33,600; purchase quote $63,682.
