Christian Lira elected Gadsden ISD board president; Laura Salazar Flores named vice president, Claudia Rodriguez secretary

Christian Lira was elected president of the Gadsden Independent School District board at the Jan. 8 reorganizational meeting, with Laura Salazar Flores confirmed as vice president and Claudia Rodriguez elected secretary.

The board opened nominations under board policy BDA and followed roll-call procedures required by policy BBA. When asked to state their preferred nominee during separate roll-call votes, all members present affirmed the named candidates. Miss Delgado conducted the roll calls and each nominee, including those nominated themselves, was allowed to vote per the policy.

Board members and staff offered congratulations and brief comments after the votes. Lira thanked colleagues and said he intends to focus on leadership and service for students during his term. Board members emphasized continuity, inviting community engagement through campus-level events such as “coffee with the principal.”

The board met a quorum at the start of the meeting and completed the officer elections before moving to routine business and committee assignments. No further formal action was taken regarding leadership roles during this session.

The board’s next regular meeting is scheduled for Jan. 22, when members will follow up on agenda items and committee nominations.
