Summary
Superintendent Wendy Dow announced information meetings Feb. 3 (Westridge at 6 p.m.; Edgemont at 7 p.m.), a Rock Canyon session Feb. 4 at 6 p.m., and said the public hearing would be held during the Feb. 24 board meeting with a potential vote on March 10; mailers in English and Spanish will go to affected homes.
The Provo City School District said Jan. 13 that it will hold a series of public information meetings and hearings about proposed boundary adjustments affecting Westridge Elementary and nearby neighborhoods.
Superintendent Wendy Dow told the board the district will hold information sessions at Westridge Elementary and Edgemont Elementary on Tuesday, Feb. 3 (6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., respectively) and a Rock Canyon information meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 4 at 6:00 p.m. The district plans to allow residents to attend information sessions and then come to a formal public hearing; Dow said the board could hold that hearing during its Feb. 24 meeting or schedule a separate evening for the public hearing. She added the board would not vote on boundary changes before the public hearing and that any final vote could occur on March 10 if the board proceeds.
Dow said affected residents (she estimated 8–9 homes for the Westridge shift) would receive mailers in English and Spanish with maps and meeting times, and that the district would split staff across information meetings so no more than three board members would attend any single meeting. Board members discussed timing and the legal requirements for holding boundary hearings and indicated support for keeping the public hearing on the Feb. 24 meeting.
The district said it will post maps and send calendar invites for the sessions, and will follow up with the board and community after the information meetings.
