At the start of the meeting, Georgetown County’s nonprofit spotlight featured Caring and Sharing. Assistant director Veil Hemingway told council the nonprofit operates a food-distribution center serving more than 1,000 neighbors monthly and distributes about 20,030 pounds of food each month. Hemingway described additional services including utility-assistance, emergency financial help after house fires, and a ramp-lending program created two years ago that has placed 53 aluminum temporary handicap ramps across the service area.
Hemingway asked council and residents to volunteer and support local efforts. He also noted a broader ministry program that has distributed about 70,000 Bibles across 14 countries, though the presentation focused primarily on local services and volunteer needs.
Council thanked Hemingway and invited questions; staff encouraged residents to contact the nonprofit and sign up for volunteer opportunities.
