The Ogden City School District board approved first readings of a package of updated policies intended to modernize how the district uses technology, enrolls students and governs data. Vice President Arlene Anderson moved to adopt board policies 8.1, 8.5, 9.103 and 11.1 on first reading; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
Jessica (policy presenter) highlighted several AI-related changes: the employee Internet acceptable-use policy now incorporates AI definitions and clarifies that employees must avoid sharing personally identifiable information into external AI platforms. She told the board that employees will be required annually to sign nondisclosure assurances that specifically reference AI and social-media platforms. In her words, "Employees will be agreeing and, you know, checkbox that they will not copy, paste, or otherwise transmit personally identifiable sensitive information into platforms like AI social media." A significant procedural change was proposed to the student enrollment policy (9.103): the language moves from describing documentation as "required" to "requested," establishes conditional enrollment processes to prevent students from being denied access for lack of paperwork, and adds a child-find definition to clarify special-education procedures. The policy team said these changes aim to remove administrative barriers to enrollment while retaining supports to gather missing records.
Board members discussed whether some policies (notably sections in academic-freedom/controversial-issues policy groupings) should return to the Policy & Law committee for consolidation and refinement before final adoption. The board set the policies as approved on first reading and asked staff to circulate drafts and supporting materials for follow-up review.
