Virginia Beach schools add agenda chapters and YouTube AI summaries to meeting videos

David Den, chief information officer for Virginia Beach City Public Schools, told the board the division has completed a video-services transition and added features to make long meetings easier to navigate.

"Our goal here is simple. We wanna make long meetings easier for our community to navigate," Den said, explaining that uploaded meeting videos now include agenda-based chapters linked to the published agenda so viewers can click to the item of interest. He also demonstrated YouTube's AI integration that generates summaries and clickable timestamps; Den stressed the AI output is supplementary and that the official record remains the video, transcript, and approved minutes.

Board members praised the change as a transparency improvement. Mr. Cummings, joining remotely, said he did not see other districts doing the same work and called it a step toward greater transparency. Miss Rogers said the chaptering will make it much easier for the public to find relevant portions of long recordings. Den said staff will use newsletters and other communications to inform parents and stakeholders and may provide training on how to use the new features.

Recordings for PRC, Building Utilization, Audit, and Legislative Committee meetings are now posted on the division's YouTube channel alongside school board meetings, Den said.
