Board appoints treasurer and attorneys, updates teacher attendance-incentive resolution

The Griffith Public Schools board approved several personnel and policy items, including the appointment of a school treasurer, the reappointment of board attorneys, and an amendment to the district’s attendance-incentive resolution.
Speaker 6 asked trustees to appoint Kim Homequest as school treasurer and to continue the district’s attorneys: Dave Dixon (labor), Joe Svetnoff (board counsel) and Carrie Cole Goldamy (special-education attorney; spelling noted in packet). Speaker 1 moved to appoint the treasurer and attorneys and the board approved the motion by voice vote.
On the attendance-incentive program, Speaker 6 said the district previously established a $10,000 pot for teachers on contract for each semester to reward perfect attendance; the updated resolution (filed as Resolution 2026-1) changes the language so employees are not penalized for bereavement leave. "The only reason that I'm asking you to update this ... is because, after consideration and looking at the initial language, I didn't wanna penalize an employee for taking bereavement based on the loss of a loved 1," Speaker 6 said. The board voted to approve the amendment.
The board also approved the consent agenda and the first reading of new policies earlier in the meeting.
