The district’s finance committee presented a proposed long-term financial-planning engagement intended to produce multiyear projections (three- to five-year baseline recommended), staffing-level and functional benchmarking against peers, and scenario modeling to support budget decisions.
Consultant Ian Tyson described the deliverables as a report, a PowerPoint summary and accompanying model outputs; he said the model can be turned over to the district but warned that maintaining it requires internal capacity. “What it would look like after the kickoff, it would go hand in hand with the budgeting process for next year,” he said, noting the analysis will help the board evaluate options such as when to borrow versus using reserves and whether tax-rate changes are needed to support priorities.
Board members asked about projection length, whether the district would receive an editable model, and whether comparisons could include non-staff budget functions such as facilities or curricular costs in addition to staffing. The consultant said a five-year horizon is typical and that financial benchmarks beyond staffing could be included at the district’s request.
The committee said the proposal will return to the Jan. 22 action meeting for an authorization vote after any adjustments requested by the board.
