Lee County Schools: Quarterly OSS inspections found five schools with minor deficiencies; corrections accepted by state
Summary
Executive Director Lisa Barnes told the board 23 schools (about 26% of district sites) were inspected; five had deficiencies — mostly missing 'safe' stickers and propped doors — all corrected and documentation accepted by the state. No reinspections occurred this quarter.
Executive Director Lisa Barnes of the Office of Safe Schools reported to the Lee County School Board that inspectors reviewed 23 schools this quarter, about 26% of district campuses, and identified deficiencies at five schools, two of which were charters.
Barnes said most problems were operational and were immediately corrected: missing ‘safe’ stickers in a gym, doors propped open (including one caught on carpet), and other easily remediable items. “We submitted all of that documentation to the state within that time frame, and they have accepted all of our corrections,” Barnes said. She added that principals responded quickly when notified and the district expects future reinspections as required by statute.
Superintendent Denise Carlin and board members thanked Barnes for the report. No reinspections were recorded during this quarter, and staff said those sites will be reinspected in the next inspection cycle.
The board did not take any formal action during the presentation; board members offered brief thanks and moved to the next agenda item.
