Station 24 (Holly Springs) requested permission to begin state paperwork to obtain its own FDID number and become a stand-alone fire department. Commission discussion acknowledged a building-ownership issue — the station does not own its building — and members said legal and council review are necessary before finalizing standalone status.

Commissioners agreed to support the station beginning the FDID application process and to refer legal questions to the public safety committee and county council as needed. The motion to support Station 24’s FDID process was made and seconded during the meeting; commissioners indicated, if paperwork clears and council review proceeds, the station could receive its FDID by June.

A commissioner noted the state is revising its FDID policy to prevent non-department entities from registering as fire departments; commissioners said an actual fire department eligible under the revised policy should not have a problem obtaining a number.
