At its first 2026 meeting, the Lakeville Parks Commission approved several administrative items and set dates for community events while continuing discussion with the Freetown Lakeville Athletic Association over field maintenance and volunteer repairs.
The commission voted to accept the minutes of the Dec. 11, 2025 meeting by voice vote. It then reviewed and approved an updated field-usage application for 2026 that requires a separate application for each season or portion thereof, confirms the per-player field fee at $26 and retains a $3 per-player fee for in-league tournaments (with a separate tournament application required for events). Commissioners clarified that out-of-region tournament or clinic fees (listed in the packet) remain in place.
Commissioners agreed to keep the existing fee structure for 2026 after discussion about historical flat fees and cost pressures; no formal roll-call vote on fee changes was recorded at the meeting. The commission reminded leagues that they must submit roster counts (numbers) and a full roster within two weeks after a season starts to allow verification of authorized participants for insurance and safety reasons.
The commission approved a request from an individual to practice archery at Chad Williams Camp on a limited basis, recommending that the individual cone off the practice area, post signage and consider an insurance rider or confirmation of homeowner coverage. Staff (Peter) was asked to coordinate with the archer and install signs or cones before practice begins.
On events, the commission set Lakeville Day for Sunday, May 17; discussed moving Music in the Pines programming to avoid July arts-council conflicts and the likelihood of adding more vendors to Lakeville Day to increase revenue for park projects; and tentatively scheduled a Trunk-or-Treat for Sunday, Oct. 18. Commissioners also reviewed an enterprise fund budget report and a draft assistant park director job description (proposed change from 40 to 25 hours per week for the assistant role) and discussed lifeguard and ServSafe training requirements for supervisory staff.
The meeting closed with liaison updates, recognition that longtime volunteer Scott will step down from his role, and an adjournment at 8:01 p.m. The commission set its next meeting for Jan. 22.
