Middle School North students mark World Kindness Day; counselor launches classroom podcast

Carrie Quick, a counselor at Middle School North, told the board the school has launched a monthly podcast series called "Be Better, Feel Better" aimed at social-emotional learning and student engagement. "We have started having monthly podcasts on pertinent topics. Our podcast is called Be Better, Feel Better," Quick said, describing how students and teachers join via Zoom, participate in chat, and how the National Junior Honor Society helps distribute small rewards to participating students.
Quick said the podcast format is designed to be informal and interactive: teachers read chat responses aloud, and NJHS officers deliver candy to classrooms to reward engagement. She invited members of the board to participate as guests on future episodes.
The superintendent also introduced a student-produced video the MS North National Junior Honor Society made for World Kindness Day; board members praised the production and said they learned from the students' messages.
Separately during the superintendent's report, the board recognized law-enforcement staff who work in the district. Dr. Mickens introduced officers assigned as school resource officers (SROs) and thanked them for relationship-building and student support. The district noted officers cover elementary, middle and high schools and sometimes cross over school boundaries as needed.
