Owensboro commissioners approve surplus parcel transfer, multiple board reappointments and personnel hires

Owensboro City commissioners, meeting Jan. 7, 2026, approved a slate of administrative actions including a municipal order to declare a small parcel of city-owned property surplus, multiple board appointments and several personnel hires.

The commission voted unanimously to adopt Municipal Order 1-2026, which the order describes as declaring a parcel of about 0.15 acres at the corner of J.R. Miller Boulevard and East 17th Street surplus and authorizing the mayor to execute conveyance documents in January 2026. The city manager explained the parcel’s history, saying the property was acquired in the 1980s when East 17th Street was rerouted and that the intended property swap with the adjoining owner was never completed.
