The council moved and approved the agreements to allow the Newcastle Public Works Authority to enter into the association contracts, removing the softball portion from the existing baseball agreement and establishing a separate softball agreement to be governed by city terms.
Council said the organizations’ improvements to the fields and willingness to organize tournaments could bring visitors and revenue to the community, while members stressed the need for local oversight of association governance.
