Davie council highlights community events; staff reviews microchip clinic results

Council members used the Jan. 6 meeting to highlight upcoming community events and to review an animal‑services outreach effort.
Alex Semide, a local dentist and race director, announced the "Run Your Mouth" 5K hosted by the Davie Cooper City Chamber of Commerce. The one‑day race will start at Cooper City City Hall at 7:30 a.m., finish at the Davie Women’s Club, and will select two charities this year (the Davie Women’s Club and Cooper City’s autism‑friendly initiative). Semide said parking and shuttles will be provided and encouraged community participation.
John McGraw, identified as a co‑compliance manager, presented results from the town’s second annual microchip clinic held Oct. 25, 2025, at Robins Park. Staff registered 33 residents (36 from the town of Davie and seven from Southwest Ranches) and microchipped 55 animals: 31 dogs, 15 cats, five horses, two rabbits, one parrot and one raccoon. McGraw said the town now has 44 scanners assigned to patrol officers and thanked Broward Animal Care, volunteer veterinarians and other partners; staff said they are seeking another event date and a potential venue at the Bergeron Rodeo Grounds.
Other announcements included the town’s Martin Luther King Jr. celebration on Sunday, Jan. 18 (free at the multipurpose center at 1 p.m.), a garden workshop on Jan. 10 at Sunny Lake Bird Sanctuary, and the town concert series beginning Jan. 16 at Bamford Sports Complex.
Council also congratulated local clogging performers for recent international representation and noted a new business on Sterling Road.
