Select board promotes Jeffrey Martin to sergeant, appoints new officer

The Town of North Brookfield select board on Tuesday promoted Officer Jeffrey Martin to sergeant and appointed Robert Dussin to a full‑time patrol position.

Officer Jeffrey Martin, who department officials said joined the North Brookfield Police Department part time in 2014 and was hired full time in 2018 after attending the state police academy, was recognized by the chief for work in patrol, investigations, grants, the drone unit, boat patrol and as an ALICE and firearms instructor. The chief said Martin had been “instrumental with, obtaining grants for the department” and recommended the promotion. The board moved, seconded and approved the promotion.

The board also approved hiring Robert Dussin (transcript also references the surname Nelson in related remarks) as a full‑time officer. The chief described him as having roughly 22 years of full‑time experience in a neighboring town where he served as a sergeant, field training officer and evidence/court officer. The nominee said he sought small‑town work and looked forward to joining the department; the board voted to appoint him.

Both personnel actions were presented and voted on during the meeting; the board recorded the motions, heard brief presentation from the chief, and approved both items by voice vote. The board did not attach additional conditions to either appointment at the time of the vote.

The board moved into other agenda items following the appointments.
