North Bend honors firefighters and police officers; volunteer firefighter retires after 18 years

The North Bend City Council used part of its Jan. 13 meeting to honor local public safety personnel. The city acknowledged the retirement of volunteer firefighter Matt Ledoux and presented the Police Department’s annual awards.
Officials described Ledoux’s 18 years of volunteer service and progression through roles including dive team leader and volunteer association officer; department representatives praised his leadership and presented a plaque thanking him "for your 18 years of dedicated service to the citizens of North Bend and of North Bend Fire Department."
Police department awards included a leadership training recognition for Sergeant Jason Holt for completing several leadership institutes, a lifesaving recognition for Sergeant Patrick King for rescuing a person from the McCullough Bridge on April 28, 2025, and lifesaving nominations for Officer Trevor Sandy and Cole Stark for administering Narcan and CPR in an October 2024 overdose response at Citizen Park. Officer Ben Martin was named Police Officer of the Year for 2025 and was credited with leading a fundraising effort that has raised "over $60,000" to support the department’s K-9 program.
Council members and staff thanked awardees and invited family for photos; the recognition items were presented before the council moved into other business.
