The Vigo County Board of Zoning Appeals on Jan. 14 approved two variances requested by Faith Wesleyan Church to install a 19‑by‑7‑foot internally illuminated sign at 6751 South Carlisle Street, exceeding the 16‑square‑foot sign surface limit in the A‑1 agricultural district.
Planning staff presented the petition and said the previous sign had included a digital message board but the proposed replacement will not include a message board, removing the potential for flashing or distracting lights. Staff said the new sign will be installed in the same location as the prior sign, approximately 16 feet from the property line, and that placement should not obstruct visibility or traffic.
Mike Ray, representing Faith Wesleyan Church, told the board the congregation wishes to replace the existing sign; he indicated the church consulted staff and did not plan to include a message board.
A member moved to approve the variances, a second was recorded and the board voted in favor; the chair announced the motion approved (ayes recorded; no roll‑call tally in the transcript).
The findings of fact for the meeting were approved later in the session and the board adjourned.
