Board hears 4‑H and fairgrounds update; pavilion use, rentals and accessibility discussed

Jessica Erickson, Broadwater County Fair Manager, told trustees that pavilion use in 2024 included paid rentals (a wedding), livestock clinics and family reunions; she reported a $50/day pavilion rental rate and a $25 electrical hookup fee per outlet. Extension agent Lisonbee Costo and other 4‑H representatives emphasized the pavilion’s value for fair and livestock activities, noting it offers shade and shelter and that temporary signage and donations have helped support upgrades.

Trustees discussed whether to add a concrete floor, partial pads, or portable flooring to improve accessibility for wheelchairs and certain public events. Extension speakers favored keeping a sand floor for animal care and suggested an accessible pad or sidewalk to reduce tripping hazards and aid people with mobility devices. Committee members also noted drainage and groundwork fixes after earlier flooding and suggested continued incremental upgrades rather than full concrete unless fully reinforced. The board agreed to continue coordination with 4‑H, parks & rec and to seek funding for incremental improvements.

Members also discussed publicizing pavilion availability in county outreach channels and the community newsletter; staff agreed to collect photos and return a short accomplishment article for publication.
