She said the court commissioner heard 41 small-claims cases and 24 family paternity cases in the reporting month; there were no jury trials.
Miranda flagged a notable change in filings by state patrol: "December 2024, those were at 50. We had a drop in that down to 8," she said. She described the decline as an "ebb and flow" and said she could not definitively explain the cause but noted a recent state patrol retirement that might have had an impact.
Miranda also requested the committee's awareness that she plans to meet with county administrators Kyle and Cynthia to discuss upcoming salary considerations for the Clerk of Court and offered to report back to the committee at its February meeting with the results.
The committee did not take formal action on salary during the Jan. 14 meeting; the chair advised Miranda to consult with Cynthia about what information can be shared and to provide a memo or an update to the committee afterward.
