The Romulus mayor reported on a recent armed incident at a middle school that remains under investigation and asked the council to recognize school staff for their response.
"There was no loss of life," the mayor said, praising the speed of the Ramos Police Department and school staff and noting that systems in place worked. The mayor and several councilmembers credited the quick actions of Ms. Scott and school personnel for helping avert greater harm. Councilmember Jones said Ms. Scott's quick reaction likely helped save lives.
Councilman Jones moved for a resolution of appreciation for Ms. Scott's "heroic reactions" during the incident; the motion was seconded and approved by roll call. Council then moved and approved a separate resolution honoring Reynolds Middle School staff for their handling of the event.
Separately, Councilman Wadsworth moved and the council approved a memorial resolution for Diane Hazen, described in remarks as a longtime library director who served the community for many years and volunteered after retirement.
All resolutions were approved unanimously on roll-call votes. The mayor said the city will continue to work with the school district and public safety partners to review protocols and offer support to affected students.
