The Springfield City Council approved a petition from Eversource Gas to replace antiquated cast-iron low-pressure gas piping on Armory Street, Grover, Cleveland and Sullivan streets, a project city staff said would total about 4,700 feet and convert the line to higher-pressure 2-inch plastic pipe.
DPW Director Chris Signoli said the work replaces older infrastructure and improves service reliability in the neighborhood. Councilors had no substantive objections and approved the petition on the clerk's roll-call vote.
The DPW will coordinate schedules and public notices with Eversource as the project moves forward.
