Canal Winchester approves school landscape amendment; district to pay $350 per omitted tree

Planning staff said the revised landscaping plan still meets Chapter 11.91.05 of the zoning code and recommended approval. Staff confirmed the fee-in-lieu is $350 per omitted tree; those funds will be deposited to the city’s general fund and used to support the street-tree program.
Commissioners discussed maintenance and existing tree cover on the site; staff and the applicant described the change as a value-engineering decision and a maintenance consideration given the site’s extensive existing canopy. The commission approved the SDP amendment and then the final development plan amendment by unanimous roll-call votes of the members present.
