The Canal Winchester Planning & Zoning Commission elected its 2026 officers during a brief executive-session process at the start of the Jan. 12 meeting. Joe Donahue was elected chair, Deborah McDonald was elected vice chair and Rick Deeds was elected secretary, each by individual roll-call votes of commissioners present.
The commission recessed briefly to complete the nominations and returned to open session before taking the votes. Chair Deeds clarified procedural rules to applicants at the start of the meeting, noting that with five members present an affirmative vote of four is required to carry a formal application.
No conditions or contested appeals accompanied the elections; commissioners moved on to the night's agenda items after the results were announced. The commission will continue scheduled hearings and deliberations at future meetings under the newly elected leadership.
