The Andover Board of Selectmen voted Jan. 12 to approve a community‑center rental policy and fee structure with several edits to strengthen liability and operations controls.
Tess Krause summarized a draft application and advised that renters could either purchase optional third‑party event insurance through a provider called GatherGuard or present a certificate of insurance from their own insurer. The board instructed that events involving alcohol would require insurance and that a $1,000,000 liability limit be reflected in the policy; the board also inserted explicit language banning alcohol, cannabis and illegal substances from the facility under the current policy. Members asked for a clear smoking‑area map, a post‑event walkthrough checklist (including flushing toilets and checking drains), and an option to revisit the alcohol policy later if community demand changes.
A motion to approve the rental policy with those corrections passed unanimously. The board asked Tess to circulate a final draft to members and to post the application and insurance guidance once the text is finalized.
