The School Committee approved multiple routine actions during its Jan. 15 meeting.
Grants: Superintendent Lathrop asked the committee to accept a $32,000 DESE deeper-learning grant to support teacher leaders, professional development, substitute coverage and required instructional materials at the middle and high school levels. The motion to accept the competitive state grant passed unanimously by those voting (recorded as 4-0).
The committee also accepted a $30,000 earmark to install vape detectors at North Andover High School that arrived through a state earmark processed in DESE's GEMS grant system (Superintendent noted the funds are earmarked for detectors and that the devices will require an annual cloud-subscription and support expense that will become part of the high school's operating budget).
Trips and curriculum: The committee approved a second-read request for a small group of North Andover High School robotics students to travel overnight to Colorado Springs in February to compete (motion carried, recorded vote 4-0). The committee also approved the North Andover High School program of studies at second read with no changes.
