Johnson County officials met on Jan. 12, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. and approved the minutes for the prior meeting. Speaker 2 moved to approve the minutes and Speaker 3 seconded; the motion passed by voice vote.
The board also conducted an election of officers. ‘‘I would move to leave the officers the same, which I believe are Brian Barrett as president, Kevin Walls as vice president, Ron West as secretary,’’ Speaker 2 said. Speaker 3 seconded the motion, which carried by voice vote; the officers will serve until successors are elected and qualified at the next annual meeting, as noted under IC 5-13-7-6.
Officials reviewed the county’s investment policy as required by statute and heard a year-end investment report. ‘‘On the last business day of 2025, Johnson County’s total investments were $33,732,448,’’ Speaker 3 said, adding that the total consisted of $4,461,451.80 in certificates of deposit and $29,270,996.20 in bonds. Speaker 3 said the policy was last updated Jan. 27, 2025, is valid for four years and expires Jan. 31, 2029, and offered no recommendation to change the policy at this time.
Speaker 3 reported that interest earned from investments and depositories in 2025 totaled $7,295,503.41, and said $5,332,695.71 of that amount related to monies on deposit in checking and money market accounts. Speaker 3 also referenced bond proceeds tied to a community corrections project; the exact bond-proceeds figure is unclear in the transcript packet.
The auditor’s office reported it closed one bank account in 2025 to better position county earnings on deposits and identified $2,468.28 in checks over two years old that will be voided and returned to the originating funds, as required by IC 5-11-10.5-3.
The meeting concluded after a motion to adjourn was moved and seconded; Speaker 1 closed the meeting.
The board referenced state statute requirements for several items during the meeting, including IC 5-13-7-6 (officer terms), IC 5-13-7-7 (investment policy review), and IC 5-11-10.5-3 (voiding stale checks).
