Allegany County's treasurer reported Jan. 14 that sales-tax collections finished the most recent reporting period about 6.5% higher than the same time last year, roughly $2,800,000 above the county's 2025 budget projection.
"We ended about 6.5% over last year at the same time, and we ended it up about 2,800,000.0 over our budgeted amount for 2025," Jenna, the county treasurer, said during the Ways and Means Committee meeting.
Committee members voted to accept a resolution authorizing the county to accept I Love New York state aid funds of $49,374 for a local project. The staff presentation stated that funding is available up to the total project cost and that a local match is required; the transcript describes the match as a "50/50" match. The committee moved and carried the resolution on a voice vote.
The sales-tax increase provides additional one-time revenue relative to the county's 2025 projection but does not itself change adopted budgets; committee members did not vote on a budget amendment at the meeting. The treasurer said the extra receipts reflect final sales-tax figures for the reporting period but did not specify whether the gain is expected to recur.
The I Love New York grant acceptance was presented by staff as a project-specific state award of $49,374, with a local match described in the staff report; the resolution authorizes the county to accept the funds and was carried on a voice vote without recorded roll-call tallies in the transcript.
Next steps: the committee carried both the grant acceptance and the treasurer's report; no additional budget actions were recorded at the meeting.
