At its Jan. 12 meeting, the Johnson County Council approved several routine and nonroutine financial items, including grant reappropriations, a personnel-pay correction and a $50,000 supplemental appropriation for expert witnesses.
Sheena Johnson, court administrator, told the council a 2022 federal drug-court grant runs through Sept. 2026 and asked that remaining grant funds be appropriated to pay an already-approved program therapist position; she emphasized this is not a new county-funded position. Council approved the request.
Steve (identified in the transcript as Steve Promote), assistant director of Johnson County Community Corrections, described an administrative error in which probation-officer anniversary dates were confused with county-hire dates. He requested a transfer (no additional appropriation) to correct pay retroactive to Dec. 25; the council approved the transfer after questions about oversight to prevent recurrence.
Michelle Marie, office administrator in the prosecutor’s office, presented VOCA grant adjustments and requested a $50,000 additional appropriation for pretrial diversion professional services to cover out-of-state expert witnesses for several upcoming trials. Council discussed timing and alternative funding approaches but approved the appropriation by motion, noting some hearings are imminent.
Council also approved several related consent items and quarterly allocations, including the Festival Country quarterly distribution from innkeepers tax receipts.
Where roll-call votes were recorded in the transcript, motions passed without recorded opposition.
