Berks County promotes Rob Souders in Veterans Affairs; chief deputy coroner role filled

Berks County commissioners on Jan. 16 announced personnel changes that included a new outreach coordinator in Veterans Affairs and an internal promotion in the Coroner's Office.
Rob Souders introduced himself to the board as the newly appointed outreach and education coordinator for the Berks County Veterans Affairs office. Souders, a retired master gunnery sergeant who served in the Marine Corps Reserve and who has prior law-enforcement experience, said he will continue veteran-service-officer duties while expanding outreach: "I wanna reach out to the various veterans organizations around Berks to represent the county and promote programs available to Berks veterans," he said. "I will be the face of the Berks VA office and meet with our community partners and other nonprofit organizations to assist those veterans who are in need."
The board also authorized the promotion of Deborah Detwiler from assistant chief deputy to chief deputy coroner in the Coroner's Office, as listed in the HR items.
The HR listing included an authorization to amend Resolution 4/13/2025 a3 to correct the annual salary of James Johnson at the Berks County Youth Shelter; the amendment was presented as an HR item but the transcript does not record a separate vote on that amendment.
