Michelle Ann Graves was elected president of the Johnson County Council on Jan. 12 after council members nominated candidates and took a roll-call vote.
Council members nominated Graves and briefly considered other candidates; a nomination for Melinda Griesemer failed for lack of a second. The council then held a roll-call vote in which members recorded their support and the motion carried. The presiding officer handed the meeting to Graves immediately following the vote.
The council then opened nominations for vice president. John Mallers was nominated, seconded and confirmed by roll-call vote. Both leadership elections were decided without recorded dissent in the meeting minutes.
Graves thanked her colleagues after the vote and acknowledged outgoing leadership. The council proceeded to the next agenda items under the new leadership, including committee appointments and routine approvals.
