Committee members said they will meet with a city lawyer to create a simple form donors can sign to indicate how they want their gift used and to document tax-deductible treatment.
Legal staff told the group the plan is to keep donated funds in a city-held account managed by the finance department rather than passing money through the committee. Members discussed model language to allow donors to designate gifts for particular sister cities or activities and to spell out what happens to funds if the committee structure changes in the future.
The committee said it will begin drafting the model form immediately and expects to have materials to review; members identified at least one prospective donor but plan to announce details at an appropriate time. The committee will also use the Dec. 18 brief meeting to check progress on the model letter and the account setup.
