Airport Director Dave Hickling said the Taxiway 9 reconstruction project has been bid multiple times and that federal funds for the project are now held at the state awaiting FAA processing. He said a bid opening is scheduled next week and staff expect grant funds from the FAA in mid‑to‑late July with construction beginning in August.
Hickling requested authorization for the city manager to accept, execute and expend grant funding up to $3,300,000 from the Federal Aviation Administration Airport Improvement Program for the Taxiway 9 reconstruction project. A councilor moved the recommendation, the motion was seconded and the committee voted unanimously to recommend the authorization.
Staff indicated that if grant funds arrive as anticipated the project would begin this calendar year; the committee did not discuss contractor selection in detail during this item but noted a bid opening was scheduled.
