The Finance, Organization and Personnel Committee recommended authorizing two grant applications to the NANOC Alliance for Sustainable Transportation to support downtown bike-lane and crosswalk safety improvements.
Public Works Director Don Luis said staff will submit two parallel applications so the regional review committee can select what fits the program: one request would cover flashing beacons for downtown crosswalks and the other would cover the differential cost between concrete sidewalks and bike lanes for the downtown project. He noted some grant programs require a letter of support from the governing body and the revised recommended motion therefore also authorizes the mayor to sign supporting letters.
The motion to authorize the city manager to apply for, accept and expend grants from the NANOC Alliance for Sustainable Transportation and to authorize the mayor to write letters expressing the council's support passed unanimously.
Action: Committee recommended that the city manager pursue grant applications to the NANOC Alliance for Sustainable Transportation and authorized the mayor to provide letters of support.
