Deputy City Manager Andy Bohannon asked the committee to authorize an intent to apply for the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) Round 36 to support creation of the Ashuelot green space and noted a maximum grant award request would be $500,000. He said the parcel is expected to be donated to the city and described the LWCF process and timeline for application and National Park Service review.
Bohannon said he had planned to proceed with the county as the grant writer but that the county faced tight turnaround times and other logistical constraints. He withdrew the recommendation and told the committee the city will return next year with a tuned application and the request was accepted as withdrawn.
The committee did not authorize a grant application or commit city matching funds at this meeting; Bohannon said more detailed cost and playground design work will be completed ahead of a future application.
