The Finance, Organization and Personnel Committee unanimously authorized the city manager to accept and expend two recurring public-safety grants.
Keene Police Captain Mike Hopscher described the New Hampshire Highway Safety grant, which funds officer participation in special enforcement patrols targeting speed, impaired driving, distracted driving and pedestrian and bicycle safety. "This . . . allows our officers to take part in different initiatives over the course of the year," Hopscher said, explaining the grant covers overtime and other expenses for targeted enforcement.
Police Captain Steve Tenney said the 2026–27 substance-abuse enforcement program award for Keene is $70,000; he noted the program has appeared under several names over the years and that the grant has shifted to a two-year cycle, accounting for the larger award this cycle. The committee moved and voted unanimously to authorize the city manager to accept and expend the awards.
Action: Committee recommended authorization for the city manager to accept and expend the New Hampshire Highway Safety grant and the New Hampshire Department of Safety substance-abuse enforcement grant in the amount of $70,000.
