He recounted close recounts and continuity efforts: "we did our recount ... and it also came down to 3 votes," he said as an example of the office's recount experience.
Commissioners from both parties praised Cruz’s leadership, citing nonpartisan staff operations and expanded voter access. The board read a resolution into the record that thanked Cruz for his service and wished him success in returning to the private sector; the resolution was adopted by unanimous voice vote.
A brief public comment period included several statements raising separate election-administration concerns; the board clarified statutory restrictions on political symbols in voting areas and proceeded to adopt the recognition resolution.
