During public comment, Andrea Connolly, a local business owner, described what she said were repeated water intrusions and prolonged negligent maintenance by a landlord that led to multiple types of mold developing in a historic building used by her business. She said the conditions caused business disruptions, damaged vendor operations and, she asserted, led to a recent medical diagnosis she linked to about seven months of exposure.
"I received my first diagnosis yesterday related to 7 months of unknown exposure to toxic mold," Andrea told the council. She said she had contacted state and county officials and requested the city put the issue on its project list to identify local protections for small businesses and mechanisms to prevent owners she described as negligent from expanding operations in the community.
No staff response or immediate council directive was recorded in the meeting transcript; Andrea's statement was entered during the public comment portion of the meeting and council proceeded with the agenda.
