Paul, representing the engineering department, reviewed monthly street and public works activity for December and the department’s ongoing projects.
Paul reported that crews completed asphalt crushing at the city pit, finished east‑side brush grinding and progressed west‑side work, screened compost for spring, rebuilt a wind rose for future screening runs, and performed equipment maintenance and replacement (including major work on the oldest garbage truck). He said the month included 16 separate snow events and one declared snow emergency; downtown and on‑street cleanup and repair followed those events and staff addressed two code violations related to unplowed sidewalks.
Paul described an in‑house snowplow and equipment rodeo used for training and evaluation, and noted ongoing sign shop work replacing and repairing roadway signage. Joe (engineering) added that the department closed the year with 286 permits and licenses, reported a traffic study in progress for 13th Street North and upcoming signal work at A Street and Expressway and Plover and Baker, and said the River Wall Rehab project had a bid date of Jan. 20. He said several 2026 project designs are complete or near completion and that stormwater utility account updates are finalized.
Committee members thanked crews and staff for winter operations and noted the department will report on East Jackson Street project details at the February public works meeting.
