The Redevelopment Authority of York City approved entering a lease to allow the Children’s Aid Society to occupy the first floor of the Salem Square building at 596 West Princess Street.
Speaker 2, a staff member, said the Children’s Aid Society will pay $600 a month for the space and is willing to share the space with the existing Salem Square Neighborhood Association. “Children's Aid Society is actually, going to pay $600 a month for this space, which will help offset our cost of utilities for that space,” Speaker 2 said. The RDA currently covers water and sewer for the entire building and noted the upper‑floor apartments are income‑restricted rentals managed by the York Housing Authority.
The board moved, seconded and approved a motion to develop and enter into the lease by voice consent. Staff said the space will function as a local service drop‑in and meeting spot; staff expect regular weekday use to support outreach adjacent to Children’s Aid Society’s nearby new center. The lease approval included a direction to finalize terms and present the executed lease to the board when complete.
