The York City board voted unanimously to approve variances allowing a quick-service eating establishment and waiving required parking at 743 East Market Street.
Applicant Miguel Mendoza described plans for a fish market with a kitchen that would prepare and steam fish for customers to take out. Mendoza said the business will primarily operate as takeout and noted, "We don't have no parking place" but that the applicants hope to arrange parking with a nearby lot owner in the future.
Board members asked whether patrons would be walk-in customers or wholesalers and how deliveries and loading would be handled; the applicant said both retailers and local customers could be served and that deliveries or drop-offs were possible. The meeting record included a November 18 letter from the zoning officer, an agreement between applicant and owner, floor plans and photographs.
Following discussion, a board member moved to approve a variance for an eating establishment (quick service) under the cited code section and to waive the parking requirement in the UN1 zoning district. The motion carried unanimously: Lester yes; Adam yes; Nick yes; Cena yes.
The approval is limited to the variances recorded at the hearing; any subsequent business permits, health inspections and parking arrangements will be handled through the city's permitting process.
