At its Nov. 17 meeting the New Shoreham Town Council appointed Greta Heinz to the school committee and expanded the Age-Friendly Community Task Force to a 10-member panel, approving a slate of volunteer appointments.
Council members discussed a statutory/charter limitation that can bar town employees from serving on the school board unless an enabling ordinance or charter language allows it. After confirming Greta had not substituted at the school since 2010, a motion to appoint her carried unanimously.
The council also voted to expand the age-friendly task force and appointed the following volunteers: Carolyn Benjamin, Brathaway, Marguerite Donnelly, Sandra Kelly, Neil Murphy, Sarah Mott, Alicia Miro, Jim McCormick, Hillary Transu and Chuck McMillan. Members noted the committee will self-organize staggered two-year terms once formed.
The council recorded Andy's resignation from the Police Advisory Commission and authorized sending him a letter of thanks. The meeting also included a short inventory of current vacancies across commissions.
