Will County committee approves state agenda; Springfield advisors brief board on deadlines and priorities

The Will County Board Legislative Committee approved its state legislative agenda as presented after staff explained the color-coded draft (blue = carryovers, green = approved, red = items for immediate review).

Prior to the vote, two outside advisers briefed the committee. John Baer of Smith Garson reported on federal matters and funding timelines; he told members that Congress had returned from recess and that three of 12 appropriations bills had passed, with package voting planned in minibus rolls before an upcoming deadline. A Springfield-based advisor identified as Matt walked members through state legislative scheduling and deadlines, noting a Jan. 16 deadline to submit bill language to the Legislative Reference Bureau and a Feb. 6 deadline to file new bills for the spring session.

Members asked practical questions about specific state policy items in the packet, requested final copies for distribution at the county's legislative breakfast, and urged staff to keep the agenda succinct and targeted to local priorities. The committee voted to approve the packet and directed staff to prepare final materials for distribution to the county's legislators and stakeholders.
